The Gulf Coast Triathlon is his favorite race
May 22, 2012
Jeff Delaune explains why he chose the GCT as his favorite race
Thank you for another great year!
May 13, 2012
The 30th annual Gulf Coast Triathlon was a huge success!
Thank you to everyone who raced, supported, volunteered and sponsored this weekend. Being a not for profit event, the GCT gives back at least $20,000 evey year to local groups and organizations within Bay County and promotes youth sports and fitness. Without the sport of everyone involved, the Gulf Coast Triathlon would not be going strong some 30 years later and be able to be such a positive influence on our community. Thank you, thank you, thank you and we look forward to next year!!!!

USAT SE Long Course Regional Championship
January 8, 2012
The Gulf Coast Triathlon is named as the USAT SE Region Long Course Championship
USAT Southeast is pleased to announce this year's Gulf Coast Triathlon as the Southeast Regional Long Course Triathlon Championship event. Age Groupers finishing in the Top 40% are eligible for qualification to the USAT Long Course Triathlon National Championship (Oklahoma City, OK, 9/22/2012).
• Qualifier status is determined by rounding to the nearest whole "racer". For example, if there are 23 people in your age group, the top 40% of that group is 9.20 people, so the top ten people will qualify.
• You will compete in your age group as of December 31, 2012.
• You will receive an official invitation if you qualify (by e-mail) if you provided an accurate e-mail address to the qualifying event. You do not have to wait for the invitation to register for the Championship.

Gulf Coast Triathlon Announces New Sponsorship with Freedom Sports
January 25, 2011
The run portion of the 2011 Gulf Coast Triathlon will now be known as the Freedom Sports Run Course.
Gulf Coast Triathlon is excited to announce a new sponsorship with local Panama City Beach business Freedom Sports. In 2011, the 13.1 mile run portion of the Gulf Coast Triathlon will now be known as the Freedom Sports Run Course. Known as “your running specialty store,” Freedom Sports helps the active person prevent injury, stay healthy, and feel good while working out. The staff is trained to professionally fit any individual looking for the proper shoes. They are knowledgeable and experienced in the running and triathlon industry.
“The GCT is excited to work with Freedom Sports in a formal capacity. For the past couple of years, we have worked side by side to provide the triathlon community with top-notch events and to promote health and wellness in the Bay County community. We hope this will be the start of a multi-year relationship between the best running specialty store in Bay County and the US’ oldest not-for-profit triathlon.” –Elizabeth Whitton, regional sponsorship coordinator for Gulf Coast Triathlon
Twice a year, Freedom Sports organizes the White Sand Triathlon. Considered an excellent warm-up to the GCT, White Sand is a sprint triathlon on Panama City Beach held each spring and fall. Registration for the 29th annual Gulf Coast Triathlon is still open. Please visit the entry section of the website for more information on how to register.
To learn more about Freedom Sports, visit their website http://www.freedomsportspanama.com or visit their Thomas Drive location in Panama City Beach.

GCT Keeps Eye On Oil
May 4, 2010
Full text of article in the Panama City News Herald
PANAMA CITY BEACH — With the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico looming west of Panama City Beach, the Gulf Coast Triathlon dusted off its back-up plan Monday.
If the water is deemed unswimmable, the 1.2-mile swim will be cancelled and Saturday’s race will only include a 56-mile bike ride followed by a 13.1-mile run.
GCT Race Director Elizabeth Whitton said USA Triathlon, the sport’s governing body, approved the
GCT’s Foul Weather Plan while still considering it a sanctioned event.
Whitton said the GCT is monitoring the oil, which isn’t expected to reach land in Panama City Beach but could produce a slick and tar balls, according to Department of Environmental Protection officials. If a decision isn’t made during the week, Whitton will meet with local authorities Saturday and has until 5:30 a.m. to cancel the swim.
Whitton won’t reveal the entire contingency plan until later in the week, she said Monday.
“If the oil spill is an issue and we have more information Thursday or Friday, we can possibly make that determination then,” Whitton said. “We have a plan in place. It’s for a rough Gulf or the oil spill.”
The last time the GCT cancelled the swim was in the early 1990s because of rough surf.
Chuck Menke, USA Triathlon Director of Marketing and Communications, said his organization will defer to local officials to make a decision that best suits the GCT.
Maps and virtual models do not predict the oil will make its way to Panama City Beach but 17,000 feet of boom will be staged in Panama City, according to a state report Monday.
Oil Spill in Gulf of Mexico
April 29, 2010
The GCT Committee is actively monitoring the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. If the spill threatens to affect the Florida Panhandle and the race, we will act accordingly.
We are looking forward to a great race!
Changes to the Medical Tent
April 18, 2010
Due to liability issues, medical providers are unable to provide intravenous fluids and tubing to Gulf Coast Triathlon. Therefore, the Gulf Coast Triathlon will NOT have IVs in the medical tent.
If an athlete needs an IV or other medical attention, he or she can go to the medical tent where one of the doctors in the tent will evaluate their condition. If an IV is needed, one of the EMTs stationed outside the tent will start the IV and prepare the athlete for transport to a local hospital. If an IV is started, that person is REQUIRED to be transported by ambulance to the hospital. The Gulf Coast Triathlon will NOT be responsible for the costs of treatment or transportation.
As always, the aid stations will be stocked with Gatorade, water, ClifBars and ClifShots, Coke and fruit. Please drink lots of fluids throughout the day and be careful in the sun and heat.
Athletes under the age of 18
